Finnish Lore-Inspired Wooden Snow E-Scooter Whizzes Over Icy Ground In Silence
Snowmobiles, skis, snowboards, and even sleds may make quick work in getting one across the snow, but they might take up too much space during the off-season. So how about something small and compact to fit into your garage or living room?
The ‘eLyly’ is a wooden snow scooter that can take you over wintery landscapes in near silence. Designed by Finnish inventor Pasi Kauppinen, it was inspired by an old Finnish piece of technology called the lyly, a long wooden ski Finns used to glide out on the snow.

Kauppinen has taken this form of transport from the past and turned it into something modern Finns can now use during winter. The scooter’s front hosts a steerable ski, and its back is powered by a track that looks like it was taken right off a snowmobile. At its top speed, it can zip its 1,000 W electric motor rider across frozen lands at 16 mph.
With just one 2.5-hour charge, it ranges from 12 to 19 miles, but this varies depending on the weather and temperature.

The entire thing weighs just 121 lbs and can hold a weight of up to 220 lbs. Once the warmer months approach, you can fold it up and store it away.
