Giant Furniture Lines Candy Shop’s HQ To Encourage Sweet Moments At The Table

Alfresco dining is only for the giants here at a building called Sweets Bank, the headquarters of candy maker Shunkado in Hamamatsu City, Japan.
Designed by architectural studio Nikken Sekkei, the whimsical two-story glass structure is fronted by larger-than-life wooden furniture 13 times larger than the tables and chairs in Shunkado’s own café inside.
The oversized yet minimalist furniture, said to form a “social media-friendly” building, takes the façade to remind families to spend quality time with sweets, Nikken Sekkei describes (via Dezeen).
If Willy Wonka opened an Apple Store, it would probably look like this.

The chairs and tables also function as sheltered terraces to create a respite from the rain and the sun’s rays.
Elevating the fantasy are giant sculptures shaped like presents, shopping bags, a sake bottle, a stool, a newspaper, and a red pig.
Sweets Bank serves as a mixed-use development, housing both offices and eateries. In fact, its name alludes to how there is also a bank within the headquarters of the confectionery company.
The outsized theme continues inside the building’s café, where—instead of large tables and chairs—it plays host to jumbo teapots and teacups.
