National Park Service Shares Free Patterns To Crochet Your Way Into Ecosystems
Crocheting—one of the peaceful outcomes of the lockdown, and a pastime that people still hold dear three years on. Now that going outside isn’t a problem, the National Park Service (NPS) is reeling the public back into nature with lovely yarn creatures inspired by aquatic life from its collective of parks.
The agency has released a set of free, simple crochet patterns, designed by park ranger Hailey Burley, that let you breathe life into cozy homebody versions of wildlife. There’s the halibut from Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve, the walleye (pictured above) from Voyageurs National Park, and a small crustacean called the Triops from the Wutpaki National Monument.
Since the collection is all about staying rooted with the great outdoors, the series includes a pillow inspired by lava flow that you can rest your head on when exploring rocky terrain.
Per Colossal, Burley intends to grow the selection with more nature-themed crochet patterns.
The crafts are said to have an easy-to-medium difficulty level, so with the right guidance, first-timers shouldn’t feel like a fish out of water.
