New-Gen Chicken Coops Come Complete With Night-Vision Cameras, Alarms
With high-tech doorbells now commonplace among homes across the country, perhaps it shouldn’t be surprising that livestock is afforded the same sense of security.
Coop, a Texas-based startup, has extended the same features to that of the humble chicken coop, decking out the farm staple with cameras and alarms that let owners know how their chickens are faring at all times.
Unlike the wood and wire coops of old, the improved home includes a shelter known as the ‘Roost’ and a detachable, outdoor fence dubbed the ‘Run’. Within the former, chickens are protected from the sun with double-walled recycled plastic.
Rain or snow is no bother either, as the shelter comes complete with an air gap in between to provide natural insulation when temperatures drop. The facility can house up to six chickens at once.
In the morning, an automatic ambient light sensor triggers the shelter’s door to open automatically when the sun rises and closes back to keep the animals safe overnight once the sun has set.
Additionally, owners can monitor their chickens throughout the day via an accompanying application on their smartphones. The darkness of night isn’t a hindrance either, as the cameras are equipped with HD night vision.
Should a predator sneak into the yard, users can trigger an SOS mode that lights up the cameras, shuts the Roost’s door, and echoes the sound of a dog barking through the speakers to scare the assailant off.
The minds behind the designer coop have even thought about the eggs, allowing hens to lay the eggs into a nesting box that can be unlocked and retrieved from outside, so owners don’t have to go into the shelter to get them.
