Longest Twitter Thread Chronicles The Depths People Go To Get Water
A Twitter thread of over 2,000 posts spotlights the long and arduous journey many worldwide have to go through each day to get water.
Water is a precious resource that many do not have readily available access to. Just a Drop, a charity dedicated to removing these obstacles for those worldwide without means, is using social media to bring attention to the fact that there is still much work to do to ensure everyone can get to a clean source.
Travelweekly.co.uk cites a statement from founder Fiona Jeffrey where she says that even though the organization has helped over 1.9 million people, 2.2 billion people are still affected. She goes on to note that often people are subjected to having to make do with dirty water that will make them sick. On top of that, women and girls are usually sent out on this sometimes perilous journey.
With that, the Twitter thread and campaign titled The Walk to the Well details how a Kenyan woman named Ann Ndemwa routinely has to make this 5.6-mile trek to collect water. Each post features a drone shot of Ann on her way with thought-provoking messages overlayed, asking viewers to step into her shoes, and others like her, and imagine what life would be like if this was their reality. It also gives insight into the lives of others across Kenya, Uganda, Zambia, India, and Cambodia.

The thread is asking supporters to follow for as long as they can and to make donations to the cause so that Just a Drop can help build a safe source for her closer to her home.
