The Department Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands has teamed up with Publicis Groupe to draw attention to the ongoing water crisis—which may not seem to be a cause for concern in developed nations but affects 3.6 billion people daily.
Similar to climate change, if nothing is done to address the growing issue of the lack of clean water, long-term effects could be devastating. The world would struggle with accessing everyday products, ranging from pizza to medicine, and the cost of these goods would rise drastically.
As such, the pair came up with the idea of ‘TheDropStore’—a supermarket that reimagined the world if a majority of essential items were affected by major water challenges. Each product listed is accompanied by a detailed description of how a water crisis could affect it.
Through this initiative, the ministry hopes to make the impact of clean water tangible to consumers as they see how daily goods are affected in terms of physical appearances—such as muddy water being the norm in stores—and the exorbitant prices consumers will have to fork out.
