That feeling you get when you finally have the weekend to yourself at home is hard to describe, but Yankee Candle is convinced it’s captured a version of that in its 2023 Scent of the Year.
‘Wonder’ is the name of this fragrance, and although it seems a tad optimistic for how the year has turned out so far, the sense of wonder is perhaps well-needed to buoy us through the rest of 2023. In fact, the scent’s white floral and fruity notes, grounded by amber and softwoods, remind people that pockets of joy and gratitude can be found every day at home, instead of drawn from external sources.
Yankee Candle crafted ‘Wonder’ after research affirming that consumers are searching for true, human connections despite always being connected digitally. It debuted the resulting cheerful scent on National Fragrance Day, on March 21, lingering only a couple of days after World Happiness Day.
The search for those special moments, mixed with “the sentiment of joy, happiness, and inspiration,” is first represented by clean top notes of ylang petals, white lavender, iridescent aldehydes, and sparkling citrus.
These are supported by middle notes of solar rose, fresh grass, spring berries, and orchard fruits; and finally, a base of soft cedar, warm amber, sheer powder, and sunny patchouli.
The overall fragrance bottles up the sense of optimism that people get as they begin to “take time away from their busy schedules to create a lifestyle that allows them to enjoy life's simple moments,” explains Taylor Perlis, Senior Fragrance Evaluator at Yankee Candle’s parent company Newell Brands.
Perli adds that ‘Wonder’ invites homebodies to “appreciate the unabashed wonderment in life's everyday moments.”
