Fans eagerly awaiting Martin Scorsese’s upcoming Apple TV+ film will be able to catch the movie in select cinemas before it is released online, as the historical drama will be the first release from the technology giant to hit the silver screen.
Killers of the Flower Moon, which stars Leonardo DiCaprio, revolves around the murders of members of the Osage Nation. The movie will first be screened in theaters on October 6 by Paramount Pictures in a limited release before heading to a wider launch on October 20.
According to Variety, there’s a possibility the highly-anticipated film could debut even earlier than October, as sources claim Apple plans to show the movie at the Cannes Film Festival, which is scheduled to take place on May 16.
Cannes Chief Thierry Frémaux even revealed that there are “discussions” for Scorsese himself to show up at the festival—a highlight that would mark the filmmaker’s first film screening at Cannes since After Hours back in 1986.
As per Bloomberg, it appears Apple is ditching the Netflix model of bringing its original films directly to its streaming service, with the company planning to spend up to US$1 billion annually to first screen its movies in theaters.
Killers of the Flower Moon is produced by Scorsese, Dan Friedkin, Bradly Thomas, and Daniel Lupi, and will feature actors Robert De Niro, Lily Gladstone, Jesse Plemons, Cara Jade Myers, Janae Collins, Jillian Dion, and Tantoo Cardinal alongside DiCaprio.
