Cadbury has pulled an eggs-ceptional feat by naming its first cat to be ‘Bunny’ of the year. Meet Crash the one-eyed rescue cat, who has crash-landed on hearts across the US and earned himself the coveted crown, or ears, in time for Easter.
The Bunny Tryouts were particularly special for Cadbury this year, as the confectioner was—for the first time—laser-focused on finding a shelter animal to be spokesbunny. Eight-year-old Crash from Boise, Idaho, left audiences fawning with his earnest high-fives, adorable tricks, and friendly demeanor, and he ended up pulling in the most votes for the annual contest by the chocolate brand.
Life was not all hippity-hoppity for this happy cat, as indicated by Crash’s name and single eye. A tragic car accident had left him “severely injured” and cost him his eye, and he was taken into a local shelter to recuperate from the trauma.
There, the feline quickly won hearts with “quirky, outgoing personality,” and he continues to charm visitors with his tricks.
“We are jumping with joy to hear Crash is the next Cadbury Bunny but not surprised as he is always the center of attention in any room,” expresses Crash’s owner Maddie Corey.
“He’s been through so much over the past few years and we appreciate the love his friends, family and cat enthusiasts across the country have shown,” Corey continues.
Crash, who’s the successor to a therapy dog and a tree frog as Cadbury Bunny winner, has clinched a US$5,000 prize for himself, along with US$5,000 for the shelter of his choice. The kitty is, of course, going with Simply Cats, the Boise adoption home that took him in and brought him back on his bean-studded feet.
On Cadbury’s part, it’s working with the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) to spread awareness for pets in need and has donated US$20,000 to further drive the charity’s cause.
