Versatile ‘POD’ Looks Like A Meteorite That Has Landed On Earth

If you’re looking to own the most unique campervan at the trailer park, there might be nothing more eye-catching than this meteorite-like ‘POD’.
 
The POD, in this case, was designed by New Zealand-based Dreadnort Boats and stands for Point of Difference, which makes sense considering the origins of the campervan.
 
The idea dates back to 2011 when the team sought a solution for a tsunami shelter that could also turn into a boat or trailer. That said, the finished product is not tsunami-proof.

It will, however, provide good shelter out in the wilderness when you’re camping, or if you want to stick this in your backyard as a space-age style office, that works too. According to New Atlas, naval architect, Blair Lewis notes that various other layouts are also in the works to be used as a food truck, coffee kiosk, tiny house, or houseboat.
 
The POD is made out of 5mm marine-grade aluminum and 6mm toughened safety glass windows. Its windows are also dotted around the cabin, allowing light to filter in, in a honeycomb structure. It measures 200 x 98 x 98-inches and has a headroom of 79 inches.

It can comfortably seat 12 adults, and its tables and storage areas can double up as beds. It was made to be hooked to an electrical grid, but it can also sustain itself with its two 150-watt solar panels.

Dreadnort Boats is now selling the POD for US$61,243. However, prices might defer depending on how it is customized.
