Wes Anderson’s ‘Asteroid City’ About Amateur Space Cadets Releases Trailer
Outer space and quarantine—two themes that have rocketed into the world’s consciousness in the last few years. These elements make this tale, set in “circa 1955,” rather pertinent for the times.
Wes Anderson’s forthcoming film, Asteroid City, has released its official trailer and poster by way of Focus Features, and they look otherworldly.
The story centers around a fictional American desert town, called Asteroid City, that’s hosting its annual Junior Stargazer/Space Cadet convention, driving schoolchildren and parents to this rather nondescript place.
Alas, the town is swept up in “world-changing events” that leave it on lockdown.
Besides the dreamy cinematography, there’s not much the trailer is letting on about the film. What’s apparent, though, is the star-studded cast list: Congregated in this town are Jason Schwartzman, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Hanks, Jeffrey Wright, Tilda Swinton, Bryan Cranston, Edward Norton, Adrien Brody, Liev Schreiber, Hope Davis, Stephen Park, Rupert Friend, Maya Hawke, Steve Carell, Matt Dillon, Hong Chau, Willem Dafoe, Margot Robbie, Jake Ryan, Tony Revolori, and Jeff Goldblum.

Asteroid City was produced and written by Anderson, alongside writer and longtime collaborator Roman Coppola, and producers Jeremy Dawson, Steven Rales, Christoph Fisser, and Henning Molfente.
The Wes Anderson feature is poised to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, ahead of a limited theatrical release on June 16, and will finally land in more cinemas on June 23.
