Lamborghini Unveils First-Ever Hybrid That Could Replace Its Famed Aventador

Eco-friendly sports cars may sound like an oxymoron, but perhaps not for long, as Lamborghini recently introduced its first-ever plug-in hybrid supercar: the Lamborghini Revuelto, meaning “scrambled.”

While a single charge won’t get one too far—just about 6.2 miles—the automaker’s initial foray into an electrified vehicle certainly has not stripped it of its speed, with the engine boasting 814 horsepower at an astonishing 9,250 rpm.

The brand made sure to include air intake ducts along the vehicle to increase airflow supply to its engine, allowing for a power level of 126 hp per liter, which the company proudly claims is its “highest output in the history of Lamborghini’s 12-cylinder engines.”

As a hybrid car, the Revuelto isn’t entirely dependent on its battery, which does present as rather small at 3.8 kWh. Despite this, its combustion engine can recharge the entire amount in just six minutes through regenerative braking on the car’s front wheels.

Carbon fiber, produced in the automaker’s artisan craftsman Sant’Agata Bolognese factory, is the main component making up the structure of the car, not only being used in the monofuselage and frame but also in many elements of its bodywork.

Staying true to the luxurious aesthetic of the brand yet establishing an “entirely new stylistic language,” the Revuelto harkens to past vehicles with the scissor doors from the 1970s Countach cars, while signaling a new era in the company’s journey with its new aerodynamic proportions.

Aerospace elements feature heavily throughout the car, such as its broad monolithic carbon-fiber hood, Y-shaped daytime running lights, aerodynamic blades that connect the splitter to the hood, and sharp edges that echo the arrows on the front of the vehicle.

Within the cockpit, drivers will enjoy the most high-tech amenities, including a 12.3-inch digital center display, an accompanying 9-inch passenger-side screen, and other infotainment options to be entertained on the go.

In addition, the car will be the first Lamborghini to be fitted with its advanced driver-assist system. Owners can simply refer to their smartphone or smartwatch app to get updates on the car’s status, such as its fuel level, battery level, and GPS location.

“The Revuelto is adrenaline made visible. The design of the new Lamborghini Revuelto opens a fascinating door toward the future of our unique design language. From first sight, Revuelto is an intriguing next-generation Lamborghini V12,” said Mitja Borkert, Head of Design.

“The unique and recognizable Y-shape light signature is significant in this new era of our most iconic flagship car, and the interior is a dramatic leap forward in defining the new design direction of Lamborghini,” he added.
