Players Can Speak To This Padel Court To Adjust Game Experiences In Real-Time

Italian car designer Pininfarina has joined sports experience firm Iconic to create the padel court of the future—a decked-out, innovative facility that provides customers with high-tech technology tucked away within its structures.

To the unfamiliar, padel is a racket sport similar to tennis. According to Iconic co-founder Leonardo Giangreco, the game, often played in a doubles formation, is the “world’s fastest-growing sport,” and has gained popularity in the UK and the US.

Unlike other sports, which often require years of experience, padel positions itself as more of a “social sport” that does away with the usual intensity and training regiments.

To capitalize on the growing love for the game, the duo set out to develop a “more distinguished and personalized experience” for padel players, using feedback from players to optimize the sport through one’s interactions with the court itself.

Conveniently, the specialized court—which was constructed in compliance with the standards of the International Padel Federation—can be installed anywhere in the world, as a fixed facility or freestanding site.

Its exterior features premium materials and finishings, including fiberglass coating, laminated tempered glass, and even faux leather protectors. In terms of innovation, the court’s net tending poles stand out as almost separate technological objects.

Through the poles, integrated touch displays allow players to manage certain paraments of the ground, such as the field lighting or glass defrosting, so each game can be personalized to their liking.

Additionally, the bollard comes with a pressurization system that increases the reuse of game balls, while a voice-activated assistant is always on standby so players can communicate with the field in real time.

That’s not all. As per Design Week, cameras are installed throughout the court to record players’ training sessions, with the ability to analyze one’s form and performance through artificial intelligence.

“The Iconic Padel Court combines timeless beauty with the best technology available to players, to offer an authentic 360-degree Pininfarina experience,” said Pininfarina President, Paolo Pininfarina.

“The design respects nature and embodies sport at the highest level, enclosing refinement and innovation in an unparalleled concept. The synergy between Iconic and Pininfarina stems from the intersection between the well-being of sport and the aesthetics of design,” he added.
