Climbing to the summit of Mount Everest is a monumental feat that has drawn in adventure-seeking souls from almost every country and background. However, this might be the first time a disembodied thumb has dared to brave the treacherous mountain and its perils.
In a new advertisement for telecommunications company Belong, Thummie takes to the mountain. The spot follows the digit as it journeys up to the summit—or the Thummit, as it is titled—encountering snow storms, vultures, and even a Nepalese yak.
Thummie isn’t just making this journey to prove something to itself or to accomplish a lifelong dream. Instead, it’s doing so to show how people can scroll almost the length of Everest in just 20 days. Which, for those who don’t know, is over 29,000 feet. That much scrolling contributes to excessive amounts of carbon emissions.
As such, Belong is using this opportunity to promote its stance on carbon-neutral internet connectivity. According to Campaign Brief, the company became the first net-zero telecommunications platform and has since offset 230,000 tons of CO2.
The campaign was created with the independent creative business Howatson+Company and directed by Peter Martin from creative consultancy Hooves with VFX art by Heckler.
