Last year, Bombay Sapphire and prolific director, producer, and screenwriter Baz Luhrmann came together to bring inspiration to people everywhere by inviting the public to share creations inspired by the things they see in the world around them, and then make them into art using the #SawThisMadeThis tag.

Since the hashtag has launched, thousands of submissions have been uploaded onto social media, according to brand director Natasha Curtin. These include pieces spanning multiple artistic disciplines, including paintings, photography, sculptures, and printmaking. All the work will be up for viewing at the Design Museum in London and then later transported to the Chelsea Factory in New York.

Now, the gin maker and Luhrmann are taking it one step further by inviting an actual artificially-intelligent robot to produce art for an exhibit also titled Saw This, Made This.

This humanoid is Ai-Da, the first ultra-realistic AI-powered robot created by Aidan Meller and built by Engineered Arts in 2019 as part of an art project. She has since come into her own and has even stood in Parliament as a “spokesrobot” for her fellow AI generators.

Luhrmann and Bombay Sapphire have other plans for her, though, as they prepare to have her create artwork right on the spot during the exhibit. Of course, as she is powered by machine-learning capabilities, she will draw her “inspiration” from a source. That source contains traces of the content shared on the #SawThisMadeThis tag.

Guests will be able to watch as her work comes to life, and the final product will be made available for free on the brand’s website, where fans can download the art.

Ai-Da has also provided a statement via her language learning model about her thoughts on the exhibit: “I am thrilled to be part of this ground-breaking project—creating artwork that will result in the world’s largest mass participation AI artwork event.”
