Iconic Flatiron Building Takes On New Shape As A Speaker In Your Living Room

The Flatiron has been an enduring symbol of New York City’s architectural prowess for over a century, its striking triangular shape fascinating photographers and tourists alike. Now, it can captivate music lovers too.

Recently, the Flatiron has taken on a new form as an 18-inch tall HIFI speaker created by the Japanese clothing label TAKAHIROMIYASHITATheSoloist.

On the outside, the building-inspired speaker is made from a polycarbonate composite resin wrapped in what looks like cement, with erosion eating away at it to reveal the structure beneath.

The speaker boasts impressive specs, including seven built-in speaker units, a spherical silk dome, 110dB maximum volume, and a frequency range of 20HZ to 25KHz. It is also compatible with Bluetooth 5.2 and True Wireless Stereo (TWS) connections. The entire piece isn’t light either, as it weighs 55 lbs.

If you’re wondering what the price of having a tribute to this iconic landmark stand tall in your living room and belt out tunes is, it’s going for US$6,792.99. Pre-orders have begun, and shipping is estimated to start in late September this year.

In other news, the full-sized Flatiron has been put up for auction after its five owners entered into a disagreement on the structure’s future.
