20-Foot Tall ‘Donkey Kong’ Playable Arcade Game Lands In Museum
The mighty Donkey Kong deserves nothing but a mighty home, and that’s precisely what he’s getting. New York’s Strong Museum is about to debut its latest resident: a 20-foot-tall Donkey Kong arcade cabinet.
Donkey Kong will have a new home in the museum’s latest 90,000-square-foot expansion devoted to video game history. Dominating the exhibition will be the colossal but fully functional replica, paying homage to the title that ignited the fervor for the Super Mario Bros.

A rendering from the museum shows just how much it will tower over eager fans. The cabinet will be made from aluminum and MDF fiberboard and will house the original Donkey Kong arcade machine. Graphics running along its sides and top depict some of the first images of the titular character and the first look at Princess Peach and Mario, who was called Jumpman at the time.
Thankfully, you won’t need Donkey Kong-sized hands to operate the machine, as a smaller control panel seems to be placed at a regular human height for fans to button smash to their hearts’ content.
The new expansion will swing its doors open on June 30, where it will be on like 20-foot-tall Donkey Kong.
