In its latest project, marketing agency Wunderman Thompson has tapped into the powers of artificial intelligence (AI) as a tool for transformation, tasking the algorithm with penning a new book about the future of Iran if its dystopian political scene is left to continue at the helm.

Cleverly dubbed A.IRAN, the “history book from the future” was entirely generated by OpenAI’s powerful GPT-4, and hopes to be a catalyst for transformation by showing readers how their actions (in the form of choose-your-own-adventure options) can change the future.

According to The Drum, the story begins in 2026 and bases itself on news and social media posts about the ongoing conflict. The Human Rights Activists News Agency reported that thus far, 522 protesters have been killed, with an additional 19,000 arrested.

While flipping through the (virtual) pages, readers can select the ‘take action’ icon to choose from a series of options—including sharing the book with friends, making a donation, or even joining a protest—which will lead to different endings of how these choices make a difference.

Jason Carmel from Wunderman Thompson told WPP the title, which was created in partnership with the non-profit organization Iran Democracy Council, will comprise multiple chapters covering topics such as self-determination, politics, education, and more.
