Lisbon, Portugal Turns City’s Iconic Sidewalks Into Tattoos To Leave Its Mark
To stamp its ink on familiar locals and fascinated visitors alike, the Lisbon City Council has come up with its own tattoos, bringing the unmistakable patterns and drawings from its most iconic sidewalks to one’s skin.
The tattoos—which took over six months to develop—feature a variety of designs, including symbols found on sidewalks in major locations such as Rossio, Restauradores, and Imperial Square.
To come up with the tattoos, the council enlisted the help of six renowned artists, including the likes of Dave Santos, Douglas Cardoso, Gonçalo Santos, Igor Gama, Inês Gonçalves, and Miguel Brum, all of whom reinterpreted the patterns in their own style.
Those interested in getting inked up can request the designs at tattoo parlors in the city, where they’ll be presented with a portfolio made of limestone paper and protected by a hardcover crafted from a sidewalk laying mold.
