Leica Unveils M11 Monochrom Camera To Welcome New Era Of B&W Photography

Over a decade ago, Leica was the only imaging brand to launch a camera with a dedicated black-and-white sensor in a time when color has overtaken nearly aspect of our lives, and monochrome photography is long forgotten.

Now, years later, the manufacturer is releasing its fourth-generation sensor specially crafted for the art of light and shadows: the Leica M11 Monochrom, which focuses “like no other camera” on one of the most basic principles of image making.

According to the brand, the M11 Monochrom features a multi-resolution full-format sensor that has been exclusively developed for the new era of cameras, allowing amazing pictures to be shot in raw or jpeg formats in either 18, 36, or 60 megapixels.

In addition, the gadget boasts an incredible ISO range of 125 to 200,000—allowing one to capture even the finest of details even in difficult light conditions, granting photographers “extreme creative freedom” in the craft.

Despite it being focused on a primitive form of photography, the camera is just as convenient to use as others on the market. It comes with 256 GB memory, and the ability to connect via Bluetooth or USB-C to transfer pictures over to the application quickly.

On its exterior, the Leica M11 Monochrom is decked out in high-quality aluminum, featuring a sapphire glass display and solid black leather casing, finished with scratch-resistant paint to offer photographers a device that’s truly classic and timeless.

Keen-eyed fans will notice the deliberate omission of the iconic Leica logo, while the dark chrome-plated coating of the camera’s optical viewfinder underline has been reduced, combining both the looks and capabilities that make it a “Made in Germany” product.

The Leica M11 Monochrom is now available globally at all of the retailer’s stores, online, and at authorized dealers, retailing at €9,450 (US$10,453). Head here for more information on the release.
