These Computer Mice Are Tailored For Your Own Hand Using Palm 3D Scans
There are all sorts of computer mice out there, but it’s hard to find one that truly *clicks* with your needs. Nevertheless, one Toronto startup believes it’s developed the perfect one.
The perfect mouse, as it turns out, isn’t one-size-fits-all but is molded just for your hand. The company, called Formify, processes photos of your palm and feeds them to a parametric software that identifies up to 10,000 data points—spanning finger length to hand shape and curvature—to visualize a fully bespoke, ergonomic outer shell for your personal computer mouse.
The manufacturer then 3D-prints the one-of-a-kind silhouette using Multi-Jet Fusion, with up to five texture options to meet your gripping preferences.
The design is said to provide the ideal angle for your wrist to rest on, along with the right texture for your fingertips, and adequate cushioning for your palm. The fit is so snug, Formify even likens it to a well-tailored suit, Yanko Design reports. All these, and the mouse only weighs about 1.9 ounces.
Depending on your sleeping position, you might be more comfortable resting on your back, by your side, or on your belly. Likewise, there are different grip styles to serve your computer usage needs
As Formify explains, the ‘claw’ and ‘fingertip’ grips ensure minimal contact points between the palm and mouse, which is ideal for gamers who require speed so that their fingers can dance rapidly around the mouse.
The ‘palm’ grip, which is what most users are accustomed to, features a silhouette that’s broader, longer, and steeper in the back, and it’s more for people who “require accuracy and repeated movements.”
Each custom mouse is built with industry-standard Kailh 8.0 clear switches to offer a good clicky response, along with a tracking speed of 650 inches per second and a resolution of up to 26,000 DPI.
All told, the Formify mouse isn’t ready for market and is currently at the Kickstarter stage, though you can still find out more about it here.
