Teenage Groot tried it once (presumably) when he mockingly uttered “I am Groot” in Avengers: Infinity War. Now, we finally have a cuss word—in English!—in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
In the latestGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 teaser clip, an irritated Star-Lord (played by Chris Pratt) snaps the MCU’s streak of family-friendly language into oblivion for the first time, ahead of Deadpool’s arrival in the universe in 2024. It’s his reason for doing so that’s the most amazing part.
In the preview, the crew is about to head off for a mission in a dusty old car. Alas, its plans are slightly stalled as Nebula (Karen Gillan) struggles to open the passenger door.
For all the tactical superpowers she has, the cyborg manages to confuse the keyhole for a button.
“Open the f**king door!” Star-Lord resultantly bemoans.
And there you have it. The first F-bomb in the MCU. Unfortunately for potty-mouthed fans, this will be the only one in the film, as James Gunn clarifies on Twitter that you can only have one swear per PG-13 movie.
“It wasn’t planned,” Gunn elaborates. “I told Chris [Pratt] to add it on set and it just made the moment funnier so we kept [it].”
Viewers will just have to wait for their healthy dose of profanities to ship on November 8, 2024, when the R-rated Deadpool 3 is set to hit screens. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, on the other hand, will land in US cinemas on May 5, 2023.
