Hybrid Floor Lamp Shines Bright As A Working Helmet, As Well
Helmets and lamps might not have much together unless American designer Rick Owens has anything to say.
Owens’ Winter 2022 collection sees three helmets that have strobe bulbs jutting out of them. What sets them apart from your average light-adorned headgear is that they can stand up independently as floor lamps to add a little avant-garde pizzazz to your space.
The three lamps cum headgear looks a little like someone has attached a fluorescent bulb to the top of Darth Vader’s helmet, which makes for a rather haunting head and home accessory. That said, Dezeen states that Owens actually looks to the past, specifically ancient Egypt, where he toured around and noticed fluorescent bulbs set into crown-shaped objects.
The light fixtures come in black and white colors, and each has a different type of blub stuck to its crown. The dual-light fixture only arrives in black and is called ‘Amun’, while the single-light version comes in both hues and is named ‘Hedjet’.
What’s more, the shell of the headgear stretches down the wearer’s chest and back. This extended portion doubles up as trapezoid-shaped legs for the lamp. Though, if you’re more in the market for an eye-catching helmet, you can don it instead. Either plug it into a socket to turn yourself into a stand, or as you go about your day, or wherever it is, you would wear such a piece.
Amun is being sold for US$1,301, while Hedjet is going for US$1,146.95. Unfortunately, both versions are sold out on the website.
