Ever wondered why condoms never seem to match the skin tones of people of color? Well, sexual wellness brand Roam is challenging that notion by releasing what it claims to be the world’s first skin-toned colored condoms.
Instead of just the one-shade-fits-all mentality that’s been the norm for decades, consumers can pick from four different shades of protection: original latex, light brown, medium brown, and dark brown.
The company worked together with multicultural creative consultancy Word on the Curb to develop hues that catered to a “broad range of skin tones,” explaining that this inclusive design brings “choice and representation” to shoppers from all walks of life.
Aside from being complementary to a broad spectrum of skin tones, Roam’s condoms are made with natural latex, meaning they’re biodegradable after use. The brand even uses paper foils instead of the usual plastic packaging to reduce waste.
For every pack of Roam condoms purchased, an additional condom will be donated to the sexual health charity Brook to help protection reach communities in which contraception is more stigmatized.
