Virgin Atlantic Lets New Yorkers Try London’s Airplane Luxuries In Special Cabs

To commemorate the arrival of Virgin Atlantic’s brand-new A330neo at John F. Kennedy International Airport this month, the airliner has brought a taste of London to the streets of New York with its Taxi For Takeoff experience.

Those who spotted a unique, out-of-place red hackney carriage roaming the streets were treated to a thrilling ride and the added surprise appearance of founder Sir Richard Branson. The carriage traveled from its home base at Virgin Hotels across different parts of the city.

During the ride, fans could experience the same premium features currently available in the A330neo, including built-in wireless charging pads, luxurious seatback screens, signature mood lighting, and classic British afternoon tea.

Not to mention, flight attendants clad in Vivienne Westwood-designed uniforms were on standby to offer assistance at any time. According to Virgin Atlantic, the new addition to the fleet is a “crucial” component of its mission to become the cleanest, greenest airliner in the sky.

In particular, the A330neo boasts 11% more fuel and carbon efficiency than the typical A330-300 it replaces and even provides a 50% reduction in airport noise. Within the last decade, the company has successfully cut its total carbon emissions by 35%.
