Step Inside The Late Karl Lagerfeld’s Opulent New Five-Star Hotel, Opening Soon

This June, travelers visiting the Grand Lisboa Palace Resort Macau, which houses the Karl Lagerfeld Macau, will be able to check into the only hotel in the world designed entirely by the late fashion giant.

In fact, according to Robb Report, the opulent project was the last interior design task the mogul completed before he passed on in 2019, making it one of the last buildings in the world to have been overlooked by his keen eye.

The 271-room hotel features a bold color palette and ornate details, with intricate Chinoiserie accents, culminating in an elegant mix of Chinese and Western design practices. For those unfamiliar with the city, Macau is an autonomous region located on the south coast of China.

For example, within the rooms, the designer created custom headboards inspired by auspicious Chinese coins that are meant to bring about good fortune, while the circular room dividers draw inspiration from traditional folk “moon gates.”

Additionally, the eye-catching interior includes art pieces specially commissioned for the project, including porcelain vases handmade in Jingdezhen, chandeliers by Terzani, and sculptures by artists Marcel Wanders and Jean-Michel Othoniel.

Thinking of shelling out? The standout room in the building is, without a doubt, the 3,800-square-foot Autograph Suite, boasting two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a study, a living room, a massage room, a dining room, and even a media room.

In terms of amenities, the hotel offers a unique Book Lounge, in which visitors can spend time looking through 4,000 hand-picked books. There’s also a spa and wellness center, indoor and outdoor pools, and a restaurant by Chef José Avillez.
