Microsoft’s PC accessories line is drawing its services to a close. Instead, the tech company will now sell the hardware under the Surface brand.
The Microsoftperipherals included ergonomic keyboards, mice, and webcams at a more wallet-friendly price. However, Surface remains the company’s premium lineup, and goods sold under the name usually have a price tag to match.
What remains up in the air is if these products, which include the Ergonomic Keyboard and Mouse and the Sculpt Comfort Desktop, will remain the same price as there are currently no alternatives for these under Surface. On the other hand, there are also no low-cost stand-alone webcam options either.
This comes after a series of layoffs that affected the hardware division. Although, this does raise the question if Microsoft will introduce low-cost options to Surface or if the company intends to focus solely on higher-end goods.
Ars Technica has compared items from both brands and found that mice and keyboards from Surface range between US$40 and US$100, while those from Microsoft’s other collections could cost about half as much, mainly thanks to the fact that cheaper material is often used in production.
