Typically, the Aurora Borealis, known as the Nothern Lights, can only be seen within a 1,550-mile radius of the North Pole, such as in Iceland, Finland, Sweden, Norway, and more. However, the phenomenon recently made an appearance in Manchester, England.
No, nature didn’t change its course overnight. Rather, to celebrate soccer star Erling Haaland breaking the single-season goalscoring record, Nike has brought the fabled light show to the UK in the form of a branded display.
To honor Haaland’s Norwegian heritage, the technology giant partnered with creative agency Wieden+Kennedy Amsterdam to create the Aurora of Haaland up in the clouds. This involved using hologram technology to project the outdoor light show in the night sky.
Those outside the National Football Museum in Manchester were treated to an interactive light display, complete with smoke, lasers, projections, and innovative Holonet—known as the “brightest, most transparent hologram gauze” that allows for stunning visuals to appear in the air.
Images of Haaland volleying a ball were projected into the night, along with the 22-year-old’s famed sitting meditation goal celebration and, of course, the Nike logo. What other natural phenomenon will the brand conjure up should Haaland break his own record next year?
