Eurovision Gives Ukraine An Illuminating Embrace In 2023 Stage Design

The 2023 Eurovision Song Contest is shining a light on the persisting situation in Ukraine with its set design, which was recently unveiled by the BBC.
Conceptualized by New York production design firm Yellow Studio, the immersive design in Liverpool Arena will stretch from the stage to the audience, symbolically extending a hug to the winner of 2022’s contest, Ukraine.
The theme this year is United by Music, and the stage embodies this by “[uniting] Ukraine and the UK to celebrate the unique cultures of both,” expresses Yellow Studio director Julio Himede.
The set’s fluid shapes and colors reverberate all across the stage—connecting the arena floor, stage, seats, and greenroom as a single structure. The enveloping design illustrates the far-reaching power of music and how it can “transcend borders” as well as unite humanity as one.
The 67th Eurovision Song Contest will kick off on Tuesday, May 9, with the Grand Final taking place on Saturday, May 13.
