Fall Out Boy’s ‘Crynyl’ Record Is Injected With Real Tears, Packed With Tissues
Fall Out Boy is proving that being emo isn’t just a phase with new vinyl, or Crynyl, that is injected by the tears of guitarist Pete Wentz. If your days of headbanging, pencil eyeliners, and straightened hair are behind you, the So Much (For) Stardust album is here to help you relive that era minus the embarrassing hairstyles but with all the right emotions.
The band worked with art studio Brain to deliver a record that literally encapsulated the emotions fans might feel when listening to its music.
Crynyl is a collection of Wentz’s real tears that have been diluted before being injected into each album with a “proprietary Crynylseal technology.” And, just a disclaimer, since Wentz was up to shed a few tears for the project, the band also warns that there might be traces of his iconic eyeliner within.
“Music is more than just sound waves. It’s passion, struggle, and emotion. That’s why we developed a new kind of record: one that contains the artists’ actual tears,” a statement on the website explained. “When you listen to a Crynyl release, you’re not just listening to what the artist played; you’re feeling what they felt.”
Music affects each person differently; it has a way of reaching into our souls like poetry and art do. And with that comes a slew of emotions that have now physically manifested into something you can hold. So whether it’s tears of joy or sadness while listening to the album, one can’t deny that this is certainly an unorthodox way of celebrating the emo within.
On top of that, the band has also made sure to be there for fans no matter what by providing a tissue box embedded into the gatefold cover.
Unfortunately, only 50 iterations of the Crynyl have been made, of which all have been sold out. Although, Fall Out Boy has stated that free copies will be given away soon.
