Casio’s G-SHOCK brand has just unveiled a new smartwatch cleverly disguised as its original digital watch from 1983. In honor of the 40th anniversary of the G-SHOCK line, the new hybrid DWH5600 model looks just like the classic 5600 Series design, complete with its iconic digital interface. However, this time around, Casio has added some modern upgrades to enhance its functionality.

While most smartwatches are equipped with bright OLED screens, and can perform various functions like tracking fitness, sending texts, and making payments, Casio has opted for a different approach.

The brand is banking on the nostalgia of its original G-SHOCK design, and has kept the digital face intact while adding new features such as an optical heart rate monitor, an accelerometer for step counting, and connectivity to your smartphone for notifications.

Fitness enthusiasts will be glad to know that the DWH5600 has four sports modes—running, walking, gym workouts, and interval training—which can be activated by a button on the side. The watch can also monitor your blood oxygen levels, cardio load, and sleep patterns.

In addition to its enhanced functionality, the watch boasts Casio’s solar charging technology, which only requires three hours of sun exposure to power up. The DWH5600 combines style, functionality, and nostalgia, and is now available online for US$299.
