Waterdrop, a brand that makes sugar-free cubes to flavor drinks, has come up with a new, nightmarish advertisement to dissuade customers from succumbing to the temptation of single-use plastic bottles.
In the dystopian spot, humans go about their day-to-day lives, but unlike the happy faces normally featured in commercials, all of their heads have been replaced by giant plastic bottles. The eerie scene plays as a voiceover ominously warns of a “world cursed with sugar plastic.”
Naturally, there are difficulties that come with having a plastic bottle for a head. The video depicts people being filled up against their will with fizzy drinks, while others struggle to play sports, chow down on a meal, or even kiss their partners.
Despite the elephant in the room, everyone in the commercial goes about their day as if the entire situation is the norm—showing what can happen when humans turn a blind eye to issues and allow themselves to get hooked on sodas and single-use plastic.
For every 12-pack of sugar cubes purchased from Waterdrop, its partner Plastic Bank collects one plastic bottle from the environment. To date, the brand says it’s already saved nearly 22,000,000 single-use bottles.
