Queen Elizabeth’s Jubilee Land Rover Is Converted Into British Red Cross Vehicle

Last year, the late Queen Elizabeth II celebrated her Platinum Jubilee, marking 70 years on the throne. Land Rover gifted her a Defender 130 in commemoration of the occasion for her to eventually pass on to the British Red Cross. Now, it’s being outfitted for service in North Wales.
 
The Queen had been a big supporter of the British Red Cross throughout her life and had donated to several appeals on multiple occasions in the wake of tragedies. Just in 2022 alone, she had contributed to the National Emergencies Trust Coronavirus Appeal and the Tonga Earthquake relief. On other occasions, she supported victims of Aberfan in 1966 and the Grenfell Tower tragedy in 2017.

Land Rover had collaborated with the humanitarian organization to upgrade the vehicle for emergency responders. Most notably, it will have 4G coverage to aid it in trekking through rural parts of Wales, such as along the coastline and out in the mountains.

It has a VHF radio for communications, a built-in phone, and a telematics system for GPS tracking. On its roof are solar panels to charge the auxiliary battery and power up accessories while the engine is not running so that it can last for a longer time.

It also has a boiler for hot drinks, blankets, torches, first aid kits, and other necessities to aid those in crises. The vehicles are expected to be useful during storms, fires, floods, and other natural disasters.
