‘Heaven Fish’ Uses ‘Miracle’ Of Fish Falling From Sky To Build Local Business

Residents living in the Yoro region of Honduras experience a “miracle” each year: fish falling out of the sky. Scientists believe this annual phenomenon is caused by water cyclones sucking up marine life from the sea and raining them down on the province.

While most of the locals look to the event as an otherwordly act, Regal Springs, a sustainable fishing company, has decided to turn the uncommon circumstance into a business opportunity for the people living in the surrounding district.

The result? Heaven Fish, a product made from the fish that are gathered during the yearly “rain of fish.” Once packaged, each fish from the downpour receives a protected designation of origin, allowing the people of Yoro exclusive rights to distribute these special fish.

Fabricio Lopez, General Manager of Regal Springs, told LBB Online the initiative hopes to work with the local community to boost the economy through the sale of high-quality products, and what better way to make use of resources than to harvest fish that fall from the sky?

Through Heaven Fish, which is marketed as a “seasonal gourmet product” around the country, locals in Yoro now have a new, sustainable business to build on. In fact, every time one sees a cloudy sky, they’ll be reminded of the incredible event.
