HBO Max Rebrand Inspires Same Treatment For Others… Sometimes At Their Detriment

HBO Max has pulled a “Bond, James Bond” move and, as of Tuesday, it is now known simply as Max. The rebrand—which sees Discovery+ content incorporated under the umbrella too—aims to include all age groups, since HBO’s ties with franchises like Game of Thrones don’t necessarily scream family-friendly.

The jokes haven’t stopped since the announcement of the transition in April. And now that HBO Max is officially just Max, audiences have taken it upon themselves to initiate rebrands for other companies too.

Viewers have distilled the logo designs of brands like Starlink, Netflix, Five Guys, and YouTube to read plainly as Link, Flix, Guys, and Tube.

You can see how this simplification might be pretty harmless for some names, like Burger King, which already goes by “the King” occasionally. Not everyone is so lucky, though. For obvious reasons, rival streamer Peacock has declared that it’s not undergoing a similar renaming process anytime soon.

“I know you’re all very disappointed, but I will not be dropping the first half of my name,” Peacock announces on its Twitter account.
