Hasbro Puts A Spin On A Classic With ‘Twister Air’—And Makes It A Single-Player

Twister needs no introduction. The classic game has been a staple at kids’ parties for years now, and even adults have gotten a (literal) kick out of trying to contort their bodies into unimaginable shapes to win.
 
However, in the new age of technology, kids may not be as interested in playing something where the most novel tech includes a mechanical spinning wheel. So Hasbro has reinvented how people play the rough-and-tumble game with Twister Air.

The new version requires players to stand instead of crouch on the floor, and it uses augmented reality to track a player’s movement with the help of eight colored bands. Hasbro has also chucked out the iconic mat in favor of your smartphone or tablet instead. Additionally, the game takes a more music-focused approach, as players score points by hitting the right colored buttons to the beat of the tunes stored in Twister Air’s library of songs.

This sounds much more like a version of Just Dance without Britney Spears singing in the background as you and your friends battle it out. Instead, Twister has released its own song, Twist in the Air, on Apple Music for the release. And, speaking of friends, this new version can also be played as a solo game, which is a complete 180 from the original Twister, where the fun was having everyone try to collapse on each other. 

The game will hit shelves on August 1.
