Famous Giant Rubber Duck Is Back In Hong Kong—With A Friend In Tow
They say good things come in pairs, and Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman is proving such by bringing back his giant rubber duck to the waterways of Hong Kong.
Hofman first brought the enormous floating sculpture to Hong Kong 10 years ago. This time, he’s back with a buddy in tow for the Double Ducks exhibition.

Creative brand AllRightsReserved is working with Hofman to keep these ducks afloat. Both will stand nearly 60 feet tall and are stationed near Tamar Park and the Central and Western District Promenade. The vibrant duo, designed to be pulled along the water via tugboats, will embark on a two-week-long journey on June 10.
The pair almost symbolically represents two different Chinese characters for happiness (xi) and friends (peng). The artist cites the pandemic as inspiration for introducing a second duck to the exhibition to illustrate that moments in our lives are best celebrated with others around us.

In addition to the enormous ducks, Hofman and AllRightsReserved dot the city with additional art installations. For example, at 18 different subway stations, such as Central Causeway Bay, Tsi Sha Tsui, and Admiralty, train exits will be adorned with a duck face on the exterior ceiling window facing toward the harbor, and other motifs such as footprints will be seen throughout. There is also a collection of 24 images of the pair at famous landmarks such as Tsim Sha Tsui, the Clock Tower, the Space Museum, and Lan Kwai Fong.
