Spotify Trials ‘Offline Mix’ To Get You Through Dodgy Internet Connection
Imagine you’re commuting to work or about to board a flight, only to realize that your internet connection is unreliable, and you forgot to download the right playlist for the journey. What do you do? You could either endure the sounds of the train or plane, or take advantage of Spotify’s latest feature: an offline playlist.
Spotify is currently testing a new update called ‘Your Offline Mix’ that automatically downloads all your favorite songs as a backup for such situations. A tweet by Spotify CEO Daniel Ek explained that this playlist is created by compiling the music you have recently listened to, providing you with a ready-made curation of songs to enjoy during a flight or in places with poor connectivity.
The feature is described in a screenshot as “a mix of your recently played songs for when the vibe is high, but your connection is low.” Few things are more frustrating than having your music abruptly cut off as you enter a tunnel on a train or walk through areas of the city with spotty internet. According to the tweet, the feature can accommodate at least three and a half hours of music.

Spotify’s existing offline option requires users to manually download each playlist, song, or album in advance. However, when you’re rushing to catch a flight or suddenly find yourself in a location without internet access, you won’t always have time to wait for music to download onto the app.
This intuitive playlist is expected to function similarly to Spotify’s current Daily Mixes and other personalized mixes, which regularly adapt to your evolving musical tastes.
There has yet to be an official rollout date announced, and it remains to be seen if this update will be available to non-subscribers.
