Heritage-steeped logosmay be having a moment now—to the joy of design enthusiasts—but this branding that inadvertently drums up memories from the past is doing so for the wrong reasons.
The Telegraph, a notable daily newspaper that’s been in circulation since 1855, is leaving mouths agape after introducing a red, white, and black icon for its breaking news-focused Twitter account.
The design decision was so startling to some, many Twitter users said they thought the familiar avatar wasajoke at first until more people kept sharing it.
“This looks like the cursed love child between the New York Times and a swastika,” comments one person.
The Telegraph has a different hue for several of its dedicated accounts. For example, the Travel division uses a turquoise logo, while the Sport account adopts a yellow border. The breaking news account got the luck of the draw and was assigned the color red.
All I’ll say about the new Telegraph Politics logo is that they probably don’t have any Jews in their design team pic.twitter.com/JUARLKEc1g
