‘Elephant Mario’ Sends Internet Into A Frenzy As He Transforms In Upcoming Game
If there’s one thing that’s caught everyone’s attention at Nintendo’s Direct presentation, it’s the upcoming side-scroller Super Mario Bros. Wonder—and for a big reason. This time, the titular hero Mario has a special in-game power-up that turns him into an… elephant.
The trailer of the upcoming video game, which will launch on Nintendo Switch on October 20, 2023, showcases the mustachioed character and his familiar crew of Luigi, Princess Peach, Yoshi, and more take on obstacles as they hurry to the finish line.
Only this time, a red power-up reminiscent of a rather large tomato pops up, bearing an elephant’s face. Once eaten by Mario, the plumber transforms into a giant red-shirted tusker that looks as if it’ll be able to take down enemies of any size.
Of course, the sight of Mario morphing into a mastodon has sent the internet into hysterics. Users have flooded Twitter with countless memes, including images of the transformation edited onto a cover of the once-beloved Animorphs series and the poster of the 1980 film, The Elephant Man.
