While Apple’s Vision Prohas been a long time coming, there’s still a fair wait to go. The mixed-reality headset will only be here in early 2024, leaving both users and developers behind in a cloud of secrecy.
The device’s operating system, visionOS, is unlike anything third-party developers have worked with before. It forces them to design beyond bezels and into the 3D confines of one’s home. Luckily, Apple has promised to help creators out with developer kits, guidelines, and workshops.
And now, app makers can focus on the visual side of visionOS, even if they can’t hold a Vision Pro in their hands yet. The official, first version of the visionOS design kit has been unleashed for Figma, enabling designers to dream up mockups for the Spatial Computing gear.
The collection comprises UI elements, views, system interfaces, font styles, color styles, and materials—“all the core ingredients you need to quickly create highly realistic visionOS app designs,” explains Apple.
Previously, Apple made its design kits compatible with the now-discontinued Adobe XD. Figma is its new choice app for UI/UX prototyping and interface design.
The editable visionOS design kit can now be found on the Figma website, following Apple’s release of the iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 design resources.
Beginning next month, developers will also be able to apply for a access to the visionOS developer kit on the Apple website.
