French’s Doles Out Cotton Candy That Tastes Like… Ketchup For Summertime

Say you’re out at a carnival sometime this summer. You spot a cotton candy machine and decide to treat yourself. As you line up, you might imagine indulging in the sweet, airy taste of bubble gum or blue raspberry. You probably aren’t imagining being handed a stick of soft, flossy, ketchup-flavored cotton candy. But here it is anyway, thanks to McCormick’s French’s Ketchup Cotton Candy.
 
McCormick and confectionary company Treats for Us is taking crazy kitchen ideas to the next level with a summertime treat that might have you questioning whether you’re indulging in a dessert or a condiment.
 
Ketchup Cotton Candy is a sinful (in more ways than one) concoction of sugary floss and a sauce most associated with french fries rather than sweets, that is coming to select Canadian locations in Vancouver, Toronto, and Leamington from June 27 to June 28. 

Last summer, French’s pulled a similar stunt with ketchup-flavored popsicles, made out of 100% Canadian tomatoes, just like the cotton candy.
 
“I started Treats for Us to offer Canadians custom, locally-made concession favorites,” said Laurens Gerlings, founder of Treats for Us. “So, when French’s suggested partnering to create something never done before, combining the taste of Canada—French’s Ketchup—with the nostalgic flavor of summer—cotton candy—I was in. We’ve created the soon-to-be iconic French’s Ketchup Cotton Candy.”
 
The dessert comes in a tub that resembles a classic carnival circus tent with pink and red theming. If the idea of cotton candy ketchup is not your thing, the confectionery does have its own sweet ending. For every tub given out, two meals will be donated to Food Banks Canada, so hopefully, that would spur some people on to take a bite out of this wacky snack.
