Fendi x Kengo Kuma Construct Playful Bags Out Of Wood & Washi Paper
Fendi and Kengo Kuma combine their creative prowesses to construct a collection of accessories that blur the boundaries between high fashion and the architectural world.
Kuma, known for his architectural marvels, has reimagined Fendi’s iconic Peekaboo, Baguette Soft Trunk, and Flow sneakers using unconventional materials such as waranshi—a form of washi paper made from cotton and tree bark fibers that is used in origami and lantern making.
Each bag showcases a soft, organic aesthetic, with visible wood specks that lend a handcrafted touch. The Peekaboo, made from Birch bark, pays homage to Fendi’s Penguin-stripe pattern, while the hardware features Tuscan olive wood accents.
As for the sneakers, Kuma ingeniously incorporates bamboo woven into a lattice shape called ‘yatara ami’ for the shoe’s sole. The Flow footwear boasts a reimagined upper made from cork and undyed biobased ethyl vinyl acetate (EVA).

Kuma’s design expertise shines through, as according to Wallpaper, he treated each bag as a mini architectural project on a “human scale”, reflecting his affinity for organic shapes and wood as a primary building material.
