World’s Largest Spherical Building Finally Lights Up With Mesmerizing Animations
MSG Sphere was recently catapulted into the spotlight when it decided to light up its dynamic, animated exterior for the first time. As part of a special Fourth of July show, the giant display panel—dubbed the Exosphere—bid “Hello World” to the public as an initial greeting.
The site, which was designed by architectural company Populous, will officially be home to the world’s largest spherical structure when it officially opens its doors in September. Previously, the record was held by the Avicii Arena in Stockholm, Sweden.
Many users took to social media to share their excitement that the 366-foot-tall and 516-foot-wide dome was finally trying out its giant LED façade, describing its exterior as giving off lava-like graphics with specks of red and yellow.
In the spirit of Independence Day, the building’s first show involved dazzling fireworks and stars and stripes animations before moving onto vivid visual scenes, ranging from underwater explorations to performances and even close-ups of textured lunar surfaces.
Interestingly, when joined together, the LED screens displayed on the exterior of the sphere cover almost 54,000 square meters (581,251 square feet)—making it also the largest combined LED screen in the world.
“The Exosphere is more than a screen or billboard—it is living architecture, and unlike anything that exists anywhere in the world,” quipped Guy Barnett, Senior Vice-President of Brand Strategy and Creative Development.
“Last night’s show provided a glimpse of the Exo sphere’s captivating power, and the possibilities for artists, partners, and brands to create compelling and impactful stories to connect with audiences in new ways,” he added.
Once the site is up and running in the coming months, those traveling to Las Vegas will be able to enjoy “multi-sensory live entertainment” with the building’s 164,000-speaker audio system and 23,000-people capacity space.
