Ever wondered how filmmaker Tim Burton came up with his brand of gothic fantasy movies, including the likes of Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and The Nightmare Before Christmas?
Well, visitors to the second leg of Tim Burton’s Labyrinth exhibition in Paris, France, can experience a choose-your-own-adventure journey into the fantastical mind of the creator. The hour-long tour is currently on show till August 20, 2023.
The exhibition, curated by Spanish events producer Letsgo, was green-lighted by the director himself, who lent his boundless creativity and considerable behind-the-scenes artwork to the show, which is being held at the Parc de la Villette.
Unlike other showcases where it’s all see and no touch, visitors to the Labyrinth are welcome to push open doors, press buttons, and even take a trip down the “weird funhouse” maze to properly explore Burton’s whimsical filmography on display.
“[Visitors] cross from universe to universe. Each room is really very different and everything in the immersive experience is supervised by Tim Burton. We worked together for a long time on the exhibition,” quipped creative director Álvaro Molina.
Each room presents a different film in the cinematographer’s extensive repertoire. For example, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory features a mirrored room full of contorted candy canes, while fans of The Nightmare Before Christmas can come face-to-face with a giant Jack Skellington hanging over a doorway.
