Nike is ringing in a new era of the Nike Women collection with a dance performance that celebrates womanhood. Titled Goddess Awakened, the piece was choreographed by brand partner Parris Goebel, a New Zealand dancer, athlete, artist, and actress.
The event was held at Paris’ Accor Arena, where 30 dancers and athletes came together to showcase “the collective power of womanhood through movement, style, and self-expression.”
Goebel took inspiration from the brand’s namesake, Nike, the Greek goddess of victory. “Throughout history, women have been told how to act, what to say, how to feel—tonight is about breaking those binds and letting our voices be heard, our bodies be acknowledged, and our wings take flight together,” said Goebel.
The performance covered 40 minutes and marked the newest chapter in Nike Women. The routine centered around a focus on movement that highlighted diverse body types seen in various sports. It was a liberating and emotional piece that echoed the challenges a woman faces when trying to break free of these societal bonds and try and find her true self.
Goddess Awakenedalso spotlighted various upcoming collaborations with women designers, including Martine Rose, whose latest collection with the sportswear giant includes tailored suits for football players off the pitch; Feng Chen Wang; and Ambush’s Yoon Ahn.
Liz Weldon, vice president of global Nike Women’s brand management, described the dynamic piece as “one where the brand is a platform for celebrating and empowering female creativity and self-expression through the lens of community.”
