McDonald’s red and yellow are now awash with a sugary avalanche of purple as a result of the comeback of Grimace, leading some hungry for cash to sell their memorabilia online.
On June 12, the purple blob turned 52, and the Golden Arches commemorated the special day with a Grimace Birthday Meal, complete with a purple milkshake named after the mascot.
The attention turned to pure chaos. The fast-food giant could not have predicted the horror-themed short films on TikTok that would ensue from the launch of the Grimace Shake.
Although McDonald’s is still unsure what Grimace is, it turns out you can put a price on the character. Since his reintroduction, Grimace-themed collectibles have surfaced on online marketplaces with prices ranging from hundreds to thousands of dollars.
A single toy from McDonald’s collaborative “Happy Meal for adults” with streetwear brand Cactus Plant Flea Market, for instance, is being auctioned off for US$39,000 on eBay.
A customized figurine (that looks more like a potato, not gonna lie) is listed at US$23,000.
Even the packaging that comes with Grimace’s Birthday Meal is being recycled for the moolah: A “used” Grimace’s Birthday poster is being sold for US$12,000, while an empty milkshake cup will be let go for US$6,969. If you’d like to take it all to go, the accompanying paper bag will set you back US$3,000.
Also up for grabs is a tatty Grimace Bouncehouse, which is listed at the price of US$3,000. In the same vein, a newer-looking Grimace playground chair from the 1980s is going for US$1,299.99.
In spite of these horror-inducing prices, some of the pre-loved wares have found new homes.

One person has purchased a Grimace chair with two t-shirts for US$1,000, while another has acquired an eight-inch plush toy for US$720. A third customer bought a Grimace birthday tee for US$400.
One thing’s for sure, the resellers aren’t grimacing.
