Studio Ghibli’s Upcoming ‘How Do You Live?’ Film Will Be Its First IMAX Release
There’s no shortage of hype around Studio Ghibli’s upcoming movie: How Do You Live? For starters, the film could be the famed director Hayao Miyazaki’s final production. And strangely, the agency announced it would be releasing no promotion at all in the lead-up to the release date.
Recently, more news about the enigmatic release, which to date only has a single poster, has emerged, exciting fans with the possibility of viewing the very first Ghibli film to be screened in IMAX theaters.
According to Anime News Network, How Do You Live? will be shown in various formats, including in IMAX, Dolby Atmos, Dolby Cinema, and DTS:X. Though it appears this will only apply to the movie’s release in Japan on July 14, 2023. An international date has yet to be announced.

Nonetheless, it’s hardly surprising that Ghibli enthusiasts are excited about the promise of watching the film in IMAX, which would be especially significant given that the forthcoming movie may well be Miyazaki’s swan song.
For the unfamiliar, the film takes its title from a 1937 Genzaburo Yoshino novel of the same name, which, as per IMDb, charts the “psychological growth of a teenage boy through interactions with his friends and uncle.”
