Toward the end of last year, Tesla unveiled its now-highly-anticipated robot, Optimus, for the first time. While the droid failed to overwhelmingly impress onlookers, it managed to walk about the stage, wave to the audience, and even perform knee raises to demonstrate its flexibility.
Now, it seems the first of the automaker’s Optimus displays have arrived in North America, with one making an appearance at a Tesla store in New York City. Previously, the brand revealed it was planning to use the fanfare surrounding its robot displays to boost retail sales in the region.

According to Electrek, the company has seen a surge of attention at conferences in China whenever Optimus is introduced. As such, it hopes that by adding the displays to its stores in North America, more shoppers will be drawn to step into its premises to check out its cars.
Unfortunately, for those expecting a live demonstration of the robot, that’s not going to happen anytime soon. These Optimus droids are purely display units and not working prototypes. They’re meant to be more of a symbol of the future Tesla is working towards.
