Oakley 3D-Prints Special Eyewear To Achieve Craziest ‘Mission: Impossible’ Stunt
From hanging off the side of a plane mid-flight to scaling the Burj Khalifa, Tom Cruise sure knows how to keep audiences gripping their seats for dear life. With the newest Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One movie coming up, his character Ethan Hunt is about to take part in his craziest stunt yet and, to that extent, has called on the services of a specially-made pair of Oakley glasses for aid.
The ECLP23 goggles are a pair of prototype eyewear crafted to soar through the air after dropping off a cliff. Well, that—and also, it was tailor-made to give Cruise a widened field of view by removing any frames and going for a form factor that looks like just one seamless slate of 3D-printed plastic. Its sleek design also makes it nearly invisible on his face.
According to Oakley, “the result is the ECLP23 which features High-Speed Protection, the expanded field of view, and Zero Gravity,” which ensures that it doesn’t get in his way as he performs some of the craziest stunts in cinematic history.
This time around in Mission: Impossible -- Dead Reckoning Part One, Cruise will attempt to ride his motorcycle off a cliff, letting it drop from under him as he free-falls. And yes, with a stunt like that, he’d probably need all the help he can get, including the assistance of clear vision courtesy of Oakley.
